Symptoms can vary. When my dad had his first heart attack, all that he had was an upset stomach, felt dizzy, and his jaw and shoulder hurt. Half an hour later he passed out and went into cardiac arrest. That one was his worse. He has had 6 total. The other times, he just gets that dizzy feeling. There was only one other time, and he had severe chest pains. But, out of 6, he only had chest pain that once. Whenever in doubt go to the hospital. Usually you should call 911, and take a nitro tab or an asprin.

All the other answers have good advice but a “mild” heart attack has nothing to do with the symptoms – it has to do with the amount of heart damage that occurred during the heart attack. A “severe” heart attack means there was a large amount of damage.

Symptoms include pain or pressure in the chest area, shortness of breath, pain in the extremities, often the left arm. In women, often the symptoms are very different and can include nausea or extreme feelings of being tired.
