Hi, sorry to hear you’re feeling so bad. You should be totally up front with your doctor - he probably hears exactly the same story several times a week! You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. It's important you're honest with him/her so that they can treat you properly.
In the meantime, the following steps will eliminate (or at least significantly reduce) your panic attacks and anxiety:
1.Breathe properly - if you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better.
2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks, OCD and anxiety etc. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. (After 15 years of panic attacks, mine stopped completely). You can speak to your doctor about taking a course or you can take a course for free online at: www.livinglifetothefull.com
3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. You can get free downloads online, e.g. http://www.studentservices.utas.edu.au/c…
With each step practise makes perfect. (i.e. practise the steps every day, not just when you are feeling bad). I hope you feel better soon. Best of luck!
p.s. Sorry to contradict the answer above, but propranolol is used for panic attacks and anxiety - I was prescribed it myself while doing CBT.

Now is the time to put pride aside and go to your doctor. Yes, you've been silly but do you think doctors haven't seen worse? Believe me, they have seen it all. Your symptoms are quite serious and cannot be ignored any longer. Please go to your doctor as soon as possible. Be brutally honest with him/her. Don't hold anything back as this could be the difference between life and death. I wish you the best.

OK, first of all propranolol is a beta blocker that is used for slowing heart rate, lowering blood pressure and strengthening the heart's contraction. It sounds like you may have caused some serious damage to your heart with this other drug. You absolutely need to tell your doctor about this because he is basing his treatment of you on one thing and there may be something else that needed to be treated that wasn't even addressed. Propranolol is not for anxiety. It is a heart medication. He might think that because of your age, it just can't be your heart. If you tell him that you were addicted to this other stuff, he will then realize that you have some heart damage because of it, in spite of your age and will start to address this in a more detailed manner. There are other tests they can do that will determine if there really is something happening to your heart. See you doctor again, and this time be perfectly honest. He can't treat you for something if he doesn't have all of the information about you.

You need to be honest with your doctor. There are long term effects when one has had an addiction. It maybe anxiety, because of your fear of the chances existing - but you need to play it safe. Also consider seeing a therapist.
