Is It A Heart Attack?

Just got a leaflet through the door telling all the symtoms of a heart attack, it says don’t mess about waiting just call the emergency services. Now, I have those symtoms everyday, I also have high b.p. (last checked 120/170 only last week). Am I having heart attacks?

Your blood pressure alone is so over the top something is going on that isn’t good. It’s screaming at you that something is, in fact, very wrong, and you need to see a cardiac specialist a.s.a.p.
I don’t understand why so many people are in denial about symptoms that are the body’s way of shouting HELP. That’s what symptoms are… the body’s communication to the brain that a certain body part is in distress. If you want so badly to cut your life short, heck, just get it over with. Get a gun and take yourself out nice and quick. If on the other hand you are interested in staying “this side of the river” for as long as possible, get to a doctor and have this problem investigated, diagnosed, and dealt with.
I’ve got a personal close friend who is being notoriously block-headed about having some serious heart-related symptoms investigated. What makes it even more difficult to figure, three close friends of his have had heart attacks. Here’s what many people (in my experience always men) just don’t consider……….I’ve heard ‘em say “Oh well, if a heart attack takes me out, ya gotta die of something sometime”. Well, the problem with this is that when there is something wrong in the heart or circulation, it may not take you all the way out. You could have a massive heart attack, or a stroke that can leave you so helpless that you would have to be institutionalized. If you are 30 – 40 -50 something, that translates into possibly many many years existing like a cabbage. If you have a wife, kids, people who care about you and depend upon you, your foolishness and self-negligence could cause them an unbelievable nightmare.
It’s a pity every person can’t get a “trial run”……. a little taste of what serious body malfunction and resulting disability actually feels like. I guarantee it would only take that one “test” to make most people straighten up and fly right. But we can’t do that because there are no “rehearsals” for serious illness. However, we’ve all got two factors working together for us that are the next best thing. Our bodies give us warning signals; and medical science gives us information that helps us interpret them. You heed both, and you have the maximum chance of side-stepping a catastrophic health disaster. You ignore them… and life as you know it could be over.

First, why is your blood pressure so high? And you have a reading from last week? You should be checking it daily.
Are you taking your bp meds?
You need to make an appointment with your doc NOW.
You may very well have a heart attack if you don’t get this under control.
If you won’t do it for yourself, do it for the people who love and depend on you. Get going, and best of luck!

If your having those symptoms, you should react unless you are a hypochondriac.
The symptoms can last for days / weeks if untreated ( if you don’t croak).
Failure to do so can result in more damage to your heart. People tend to deny heart problems. It is better to get checked out even if it turns out to be nothing than to wait and it is. Your heart is kind of an important organ.
That BP is high.

Did you mean 170/120 because the other way makes no sense and if it is that high you are at risk for a serious stroke go to the doctor today to get some medicine and get checked out. That is extremely high. What symptoms are you experiencing? Do you have a CRUSHING pain in your chest, a lot of people say it feels like an elephant sitting on them, pain that radiates to the left arm or to the back, possibly neck pain, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea? These are all symptoms of a heart attack and if you are experiencing them call 911 and get to a hospital. Also, take an aspirin after you call the ambulance.

You are seeing a doctor I hope. One doesn’t have heart attacks on a daily basis, although you can certainly be dealing with the damage caused by one. You need to bring you bp down, and that may take drugs to do the trick. Get evaluated, its not worth the stress of worrying about having a heart attack if you aren’t and you may need treatment for another ailment thats causing the pain.

well first of all you can’t have a bp of 120/170 your diastolic can never be above your systolic pressure and further if you have the symptoms everyday you are most likely not having one. And if you only realised you have symptoms after reading the leaflet. That will make me wonder as well

You may have already had one or you’re about to have one. You REALLY need to get to a doctor very soon because you don’t realize the damage this is doing to your heart. Also, that high bp can cause you to have a stroke as well. This is nothing to play with so please get some help soon.
