I’m 18, Is A Heart Attack Possible?
Sunday

This morning woke up with a really bad back ache, and by noon I started getting chest pains, trouble breathing, almost as if I got air in my chest, like when one gets air in their stomach when they walk or run. Now the pain is in my back, chest , neck and a bit of my shoulders.
I really didn’t go any clinic, i’ve rested, but lying down makes it feel worst. I searched all over the internet and looking at chest pain and what it could be, and I do get a few of the symtoms of a heart attack.
I wanna get checked by tommorow, but I wanna know if its possible of getting a heart attack, or if my problem is just my nerves or stress.
Like I said im 18, weigh 110, always been healthy… untill recently been getting these pains and today the worst.

lets qualify my answers
can an 18yo female get a heart attack? yes. but it happens under certain situations like 1) an inborn error in lipid metabolism, leading to elevated cholesterol and low-density-lipoprotein levels–>increased coronary artery disease–> increased chance of heart attack; or 2) a congenital/acquired structural heart disease that predisposes to compromised coronary artery circulation, e.g. ruptured sinus of Valsalva 3) use of substances that either accelerates coronary artery damage or stresses the heart (e.g. cocaine)
whether you had a heart attack, thats a different story. your symptoms are not typical of a heart attack. it may be pleuritic (emanating from the membranous covering of your lungs and chest wall) or may be related to pericarditis (inflammation of the covering of your heart, or may be related to pneumonia
bottom line: go to the ER for a proper medical examination as it is really hard to diagnose without seeing a patient; better to be seen by a professional

You have to be checked by a cardiologist asap. You have a chance of having a cardiomyopathy… I hope and pray that you don’t have this symtoms… It is the weakening of heart muscles and structures which causes shortness of breath and can affect young people too.

Greetings! I am sorry you are having this problem. Chest pains in younger people rarely mean a heart attack. Unless you have been doing drugs the chances are very low indeed. Chances are you have costrochondritis or pleurisy. Costrochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage between your ribs. Pleurisy is inflammation somewhere between the outer and inner linings of your lungs. You should go see your doctor, though, to make sure. Like I said, I think you can rest easy…not a heart attack…costrochondritis or pleurisy. The doctor may possibly give you some pain medication to help with the pain. Either one of these is not terrible, they happen from time to time. Hope you feel better.
