I’m 18, Getting Chest Pains…?? Why?
Monday
Nov 23, 2009
This morning woke up with a really bad back ache, and by noon I started getting chest pains, trouble breathing, almost as if I got air in my chest, like when one gets air in their stomach when they walk or run. Now the pain is in my back, chest , neck and a bit of my shoulders.
I really didn’t go any clinic, i’ve rested, but lying down makes it feel worst. I searched all over the internet and looking at chest pain and what it could be, and I do get a few of the symtoms of a heart attack.
I wanna get checked by tommorow, but I wanna know if its possible of getting a heart attack, or if my problem is just my nerves or stress.
Like I said im 18, weigh 110, always been healthy… untill recently been getting these pains and today the worst.

I work with heart doctors and can say the youngest I’ve seen with a heart attack would be 18. Cardiac arrest at 18 is really bad. and yes, it is known to happen. But, does it run in your family? Are you feeling a little more stressed than usual? I would get it checked out just in case.

Put simply, the odds of you having had a heart attack are fantastically small. Some individuals, the rare unlucky ones with familial hypercholesterolemia can get heart ischemia early on but usually this is something picked up early either with a good physical exam or common blood work.
Your concern clearly is over a potential heart-related cause to your aches & pains. Several features are highly suggestive of heart-related pathology, of which you display none, they are:
A chest pressure that increases with exercise and fades with rest. An associated tremulousness with palpitations, palmar sweating, as well as acute shortness of breath. Chest pain due to heart damage is no small event, and a heart attack will leave you with potential heart failure and guess what… death.
It’s more likely that you have a pulmonary or musculoskeletal illness that’s manifesting as upper body aches. You could have anything from asthma or pneumonia to a collapsed lung or even significant back muscular strains from exercise. I wouldn’t play the game of “guess that diagnosis” because we clearly need more information and of course you should see your doctor. Therefore, the best thing for you to do is to make an appointment with your doctor; had stop concerning yourself with destructive thoughts of having had a heart attack. Best of luck.

You need to first anwser some questions.
1) Have you been doing any new exercising including weight lifitin? If so it maybe a strained muscle
2) Have you had a change in your diet? It maybe built up gas, thats why walking around makes it feel better, sitting and lying down increase pressure, try gas-ex
3)Have you been under a lot of stress? Panic/anxiety attacks can cause chest pain.
Next time you get the pain check your pulse and see if it is regular or not. If not get to the hospital ASAP. Heart pain usually a pressure or crushing pain left side of your chest that may radiate down your left arm and up to your left jaw and sometimes into your back. If the pain increases and you get short of breath with activity go to the hospital now.

When I was 19 I had the same problem. It scared me too. I went to the er and they said I had double pneumonia. You need to go see the doctor. Hopefully it will be the same thing and not something worse.
